Monday, August 12 - Big Build on the Bay

To kick off the week,  Joy Snihur Wyatt Laking, the 2013 White Rabbit Community Artist, is organizing the Big Build on the Bay .  Everyone who loves  our shore, or who loves art, or who just loves to spend a day on the beach is invited to help.  Come join Joy and the White Rabbit participants and help and be a part of the fun!

For this event, the builders will  park at the end of Captain’s Lane across from 3113 Hwy 2, Economy.  On the day of the event, there will be a sign on Hwy #2 at the end of Captain’s Lane.  It is a short walk from the parking area to the  Beach.  (Thanks goes to Audrey MacLellan for letting us use her land. )

Starting at 9 am,  while the tide is out, a  sculpture will be created with only materials found on the beach; drift wood, clay, mud, gravel, grass and hopefully some colourful rope and other stuff that is found on the beach.  The size of the sculpture will depend on the number of assistants that show up to help lug materials and  build.  This event will happen, rain or shine and it will end when the incoming tide completely covers the “Big Build”, at approximately 4:30 pm.

The event will be filmed and  also recorded  afterwards with time-lapsed images until all of the Big Build has completely been dismantled  and the materials redistributed by the tides and currents.   Everyone is encouraged to come and to help.  Come for an hour at the end or come for the day!   Please wear sturdy shoes and bring sunscreen, drinking water, a snack and if possible a shovel and pail. Because of the proximity to the water, children must be accompanied by an adult.
